How is Marketing your business on Social Media Working For You?

Has your marketing on social media been

HIT or MISS?

So many business owners post a few times on Social Media and fall off. They don’t get a lot of interaction and stop mainly because they feel they need to have hundreds of thousands of followers or likes in order to be relevant.
That is so far from the truth!
I want to share a few things with you in hopes that it will help in your thinking (and implementing) about marketing your business on social media.
Firstly, let’s do a little thinking!
How many people can you actually service at one time?
(meaning in a day, week, month, or 90-day time frame)
Because social media is so busy and buzzing we often forget on any given day we can only service a certain amount of people at different levels in our business.
At this stage are you really looking for multiple thousands of people to do business with you?

Shift and say, “I want to first attract 100 consistent, engaged people who are actually getting value from what I share, asking questions, commenting or connecting for an appointment or to have services done with me.”

If you are clear on who you are as a Brand (Brand Clarity),
who your product or service helps,
and what you do for them,
you will realize that your business isn’t for everyone anyway.
You don’t need  100,000 followers to find a consistent flow of customers in your business to meet your current income goals.
Even if you are at the space where your business can handle more customers, you still won’t be for everyone.
It’s important that you are attracting more of the RIGHT people. Not just a bunch of followers.
Now I know, posting, sharing, marketing, live streaming when there aren’t a lot of followers or likes takes courage.

Courage comes because you believe in yourself, your product or service, your vision and if you are like me, your faith in God.✅

Your confidence comes from doing the work( posting sharing, going live) and getting results even if few applaud you publicly in the beginning.✅
How do I know? Because I have Business Coaching Clients who have 1,000 followers, some less, who consistently service clients,
( booked baby and not overwhelmed) selling their products, and Coaching and teaching others in their area of gifting.
Clearly, it’s not because of the number of followers on social media, but because of strategy!
If your goal for Social Media is to give value, help people, and grow your business, this is a place you must shift from,
Feeling you need 1,000’s of interactions, followers, and likes on social media to profit more in your business will stop you in your tracks every time.
You gotta shift your thinking in order to keep going, in order to get to your tipping point, in order to truly prosper.
You have to post with a purpose and a strategy bigger than just getting the most likes.
Simply because likes don’t always equal checks, cash, coin, securing the bag. #facts
Listen
⭐I’ve gladly helped people who maxed out on their followers on social media  FaceBook but weren’t earning money in their business.
⭐Recently, I ran across a Facebook Business Page of a guy who only had 5,000 people on his Like Page… but earned multiple millions a year in his business…
On a podcast, he shared that one of his clients( he named names to be able to fact check) Pay Pal(ed) him an additional $10,000 after their Coaching Session because of the value he gave.
Off the cuff👀.
If you follow me you know how much I talk about value.
He Doesn’t have 10’s of thousands of followers.
⭐I also saw the story running through social media of a  young lady who had millions of followers on  Instagram but couldn’t sell 36 t-shirts to her audience.
I have clients who have worked with me and invested money who never clicked like on anything I’ve ever shared or taught on social media “before” working me.
⭐And most recently, my Mastermind Member shared she just  3x her weekly income from a call we did about 3 weeks prior. She’s been hitting consecutive weeks totaling $4500 with less than 2,000 followers on Instagram and even less on Facebook.
I am sharing all of this to offer you a new perspective in your goal setting for your Social Media Marketing.
Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t push for more connection, likes, and shares…because it definitely has its place,
I’m just offering a space of awareness and hopefully relief in extending you the courage to keep going.
If you post because you need affirmation from other people you are likely to stop walking in your greatness.
Deep down, if you’re only waiting for that, you’re likely to change what you’re doing to bring in profits.
You may post for the most reaction on social media or stop altogether.
You want to be sure to post what will convert customers, and mainly, attract the right people.
Reaction and conversion on Social Media are two different things.
Both are ideal, but if your marketing is converting it means:
  • clients are opting-in on your website
  • signing up for your newsletter
  • reaching out to you in the DM
  • having services with you
  • and becoming a client!
Remember, the best thing you can do is get clear on who you are as a Brand (Brand Clarity), who your product or service helps, clearly explain what you do for them, and be consistent.

Does your business run when you aren’t there?

In 2003 I opened a brick and mortar business, at that time it was a Salon & Boutique.
We offered only hair care services at that time( later a full-service Day Spa)
specialty clothing, ( I had formed relationships with wholesalers in the Garment District in New York, The Atlanta Market, and Wholesale companies online.) We only carried 3 of any clothing item at a time.
Skin care products,( Pure Shea Butter, Lotions and soaps)
and hard to find perfumes and fragrances. More of a Lifestyle Salon.

In 2005, one month shy of 2 years after opening I had my daughter.
After two weeks of being out of work completely, I attempted to go back to work( not servicing clients) to operate my front desk. I wanted to see hands-on how things were going! I got nightly reports of the sales from staff, but I needed to see

That didn’t work.
I was not ready .
I realized quickly after only a few hours at the desk that I would do the entire 6 weeks like I very well should.

At 6 weeks I was struggling emotionally to leave my daughter in someone else’s care.
Luckily, one of my clients owned several Day Care’s in our city and one of the locations was a small private location for infants attached to her home. YESSSS.
That was definitely my best source of comfort because she had been a client of our salon for years. Even prior to me opening my own location.

She actually gave me this journal about a year before I stopped being a booth renter and on to ownership.
I wrote everything in this book, wholesale distributors, plans down to the dollar, marketing and retailing courses I would take, and several systems I created that would be the reason I was able to stay out of work and still function.

So off I go, back to work servicing clients in my business.
Then, my daughter got sick with a respiratory infection that had me out of work again. This time, I did not return to work fulltime for 8 months. I only worked about 4 hours of 2-3 evenings each week, but the salon remained open.
Thank God, my daughter didn’t stay sick for 8 months, but I really wanted her to be older before taking her to back to daycare.

How on earth did we stay open? I was in almost 2000 square foot of building, with staff, and in a prime location!

Systems.
When I look back on it, I was nervous at that time. We were still fairly new, some of the staff were new, but systems, goals, and having other revenue streams definitely helped us in that season.

So many service-based business owners open the business and build jobs for themselves that require them to be present to make money! Even if they have staff, their focus is on getting clients for themselves.

I feel the goal for owners should be personal mastery and developing leadership not necessarily focusing on doing more customers themselves.

That experience taught me early that I wasn’t superwomen, it was okay to need help, and doing it alone was not the goal!

I encourage you this morning to get clear on your Growth Path for your business.

Build one that gives you time freedom and revenue without you being present!

You will build it and strategize completely different!

Not Perfect But Progressing

What a blessing!

I remember this day!
I was blessed to be in the presence of some really great and powerful future salon industry professionals a few years back at Miller-Motte College.

I taught a group of cosmetology students who had not yet entered the world, as they would know it, of the salon industry.

Studies show that only 1 in 4 students who attend cosmetology school actually go on to make it a career and retire from it!

I wanted to impart something that would possibly cause that number to rise!

I wanted to leave them with something that would help them stay focused and effective while on their career path.

I saw so much greatness. These fresh starters had the whole world in front of them and the possibilities were unlimited.

Here, Check Out The Selfies We took!

I wore one of my favorite shirts on purpose. Simply to remind them, “You don’t have to be perfect, as long as you are progressing and giving it your best!

Are you waiting to market your services, waiting to start your career, waiting to tell people about what you do when you feel it’s perfect?

We really have to check that internal voice of ours to make sure we aren’t listening to the wrong expectations from our self. This is why it’s so important to celebrate small wins.

What are 3 things you can think of off the top of your head that you have done, completed or succeeded in lately?

Not that it was perfect, or huge, but simply because you did it! Perfecting is a process that happens while you are in action.

I wanted to remind the students of this on that day. I felt it would help them as they move forward in their career.

So many special moments occur for me internally when I teach.

One future professional approached me after class and said, “You changed my self-esteem and how I see myself.”

“WOW”.

That’s huge.

Mainly because how we see our self-determines what we feel we deserve and ultimately what we will be willing to try or do differently.

I gave them strategies to start immediately that will help them in their career path. Like, finding a mentor, coach, consultant, or friend who has been where they are headed. Someone who could help guide them through steps that would help to assure they don’t make as many mistakes or direct them on a path that would save time in achieving their goals and a few headaches in hopes they would not give up!

It’s so important that we have positive people we are connected to, who are goal-oriented and focused, to help us maintain our momentum as well.  For me, if I have changed at least one life in each event I host, I have fulfilled my assignment for the day. Helping someone avoid distractions and some of the things that slow up progress is important to me because I know how easy it is to get bombarded with information, wrong opportunities and doubt.

I share this with you because doing what you love and getting paid is possible. I absolutely love what I do!

Do you enjoy what you do?

Are you walking out your dream career or business?

Successful people do it every day. One step at a time, making mistakes and perfecting them as they go!

Successful people have figured out the systems and strategies that simplify life so that what matters most is what they focus their time and energy on. This is truly how people become successful and prosper.
If you know you deserve greater than where you are right now, it may not be that you are doing anything wrong, just not enough of doing what is right and most of that is found while MOVING!

Starting with your thinking.

It really doesn’t have to be perfect in order to see progress.

I understand wanting to do your “it” different. Setting goals to improve and grow are important. But it doesn’t have to be perfect to start!

Maybe you want to open a new salon business, and make more money in your hairstylist career, or learn new strategies to begin creating a business and life you love!

Just remember:

You don’t have to be perfect or have everything right, but you do have to start!

Often, we wait for things to be absolutely perfect and that time never comes!

Perfecting is a process!

You have to just set yourself on the path to achieving the business and life you desire!

Go LIVE! How Video And Live Streaming Can help Your Business!

I remember the first time I began to have a true appreciation for video in my business. It was a class that I gave to stylist and salon owners in the beauty industry.

I asked someone to record me at that time so that I could reflect on what I could do to improve my classes.

I did not have a YouTube channel but the person posted it on YouTube and in about 30 minutes about 300 people had already viewed the video. That video was made about six years ago and now has over 35,000 views.  I still, to this day, get clients that work with and pay me to consult with them about their business from seeing that very video.

It was actually a few years after the video was created that I really understood how powerful video was for my career and my business.

I have not stopped producing video content for my business since.

Studies show that 90% of consumers will watch content from business owners through video by 2019.

It will be one of the most effective forms of marketing, topping Face Book post, Blog post, etc.

There are several advantages on how video can do help your salon/stylist business.  I’d like to share with you!

1 Video creates a unique emotional connection with those who are watching.

People need to know, like, and trust you!

So, seeing you on video gives them an opportunity to create that connection so much faster than any other type of content your Salon or stylist career can produce.

2-Video allows you to repurpose your one-time effort.

I have several videos that were taken from events where I spoke to the Beauty Industry, the Chamber of Commerce, A graduating classes, etc. and all of that video footage has been repurposed for other things. I’ve used them on my website, in blog post, etc.

If you have informational videos, they can be repurposed, edited, used on your website to create “new Revenue”- yep you can sell it – It now becomes another stream of income.

~3 Out of sight out of mind!- Video allows you to spread your message to several different platforms.

It’s so easy to get smothered in the middle of so many post  on social media! VIDEO MAKES YOU VISIBLE!

I begin using Periscope live stream, I hit the start broadcast, over a year ago now. But, after about one or two videos, I stopped for almost half of the year. I stopped because I wasn’t sure about what I needed to talk about, I wasn’t sure who my message was directed to and I needed a form of accountability. So, I hired a coach. I actually now broadcast on three platforms live ( Facebook, Periscope, and Instagram) with ease. I always have something valuable to share and I’m connecting with people who  do business with me, simply because I had accountability, got the right information, and begin to experience the benefits for my business.

If you are stuck, you know that going LIVE  will offer amazing opportunity but need accountability, I have an amazing resource that offers training on video marketing and coaching. Click here

You probably know the same thing I did before I fully committed to a plan for video marketing…. It works if done properly!

If you know that your business needs the exposure videos and Live Streaming can do for your business, Hit the GO LIVE button!

Let’s face it, we don’t want to get any further behind in the way we do business. (Doing Business as changed for stylist)

Remember the statistic, by the year 2019, 90 percent of marketing will be done by video. This is the way consumers are consuming content form businesses NOW.

More people watch video more than any other form of content, more than blog post, more than post on social media, more than post on Instagram… they are watching video! All of the other platforms are still working, but video creates the client connection faster!  IF you’ve been afraid to hit the START BROADCAST button or the GO LIVE, or even TO make a prerecorded video to market your products and services, you should really reconsider your efforts.

I did a broadcast , LIVE ;),

talking about more benefits of Video marketing. Click here to watch it!

We are in a recession proof industry, but we have to know how to remain relevant. I know how it feels not to have the answers to next in an industry you love so much.

I’d Love to help you! Click Here

People have to know, like, and trust you to do business with you.

As an entrepreneur, hairstylist, or salon owner, you want to work smarter and not harder.

  • You want to create a way that you can connect with the customer, even long after you have made the marketing opportunity.
  • You can re-purpose your videos on several different platforms so that you’re not working so hard on your marketing efforts!

VIDEO IS KING!

7 Ways To Let Go And Grow your Salon Career

The biggest hurdle to growing your salon career is probably the fact that it’s uncomfortable. Yep, Growth can be uncomfortable! But so worth it!

It often involves restructuring your schedule, delegating( finding the right people to delegate to), changing the details of your role, and letting go of some things you’ve been doing forever.

Some of the things you have to let go of may actually be things you feel good doing because it’s comfortable!

They’ve kinda become a security blanket. But security that only allows you to stay where you are now!

For instance, as a salon owner, you may have gotten comfortable growing “your” clientele and focusing on getting new customers for “you.

But now that you have other people working with you, your mindset has to switch from that of a hairstylist to that of a salon owner.

There are people sitting, or not showing up, who work in your establishment, who don’t have customers.

And we know hairstylist need customers to stay in business.

Whether you intended to or not, you took on the responsibility of helping them when you allowed them to join your team!

You’ll have to let go of thinking like a hairstylist and now think like a salon owner who is growing a business and getting customers for the entire salon.

If marketing has never been your thing, it has to become your thing now. A business that does not market does not grow!

I shared 7 more things to let go of in order to grow  your salon Career in this video (Let Go And Grow Your Salon)

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the video.

Did you hear something you need to let go of in order to grow your salon industry career?

Does your Business operate like a 24 Hour Walmart?

While consulting with a business owner the other day,  as we are discussing her ideal customer and target audience, she begins to tell me that her customers want to know they can access her anytime.
While this is a great pleasure for customers, it can be quite draining and unrealistic for the business owners. Leaving the business owner always on edge, unable to balance life and often times hit or miss with client conversions and income goals.

Consumers(your customers) have an innate habit of putting the things they can do anytime… last on their list.

There is no sense of urgency or importance.

Although I feel being consistently available for your clients is SOOOO IMPORTANT, if they can reach, schedule, or have services with you “any Ole time”…it can also lead to a rather chaotic life.

Eventually causing burn out, as well as affecting negatively so many other things in your life that only receive the very minimal of your time and energy.

Of course, we discussed a strategy that still offered her time to be available for her customers. But, also put boundaries and systems in place, still giving them an opportunity for emergency contact with her. ( but one where she was compensated greater in those instances)

I taught her systems where she was compensated when she had to reschedule her life to be available outside of the normal business hours that worked to harmonize her life.

Often times, fear makes entrepreneurs operate like a 24-hour Walmart. Not realizing that unlike Walmart and it’s productivity power, most small businesses are either one individual or a small T.E.A.M.

Fear( know as lack mentality) causes entrepreneurs not to put boundaries in place…afraid they that will lose customers. fear that there won’t be enough.

Ironically, many find that even when they are super available, they still don’t meet real financial goals they desire!

Having a plan, systems and realistic boundaries helps you serve from a higher place and create a business and lifestyle you love!

We teach people how to treat us.

Our expectations, our systems, and guidelines in our business help us to operate from a higher space of value and excellence, not from our reserve tank all the time, but from our overflow.

If you are looking for ways to strategize, plan, and profit in your business without sacrificing so much of your time, family life and things you love, be sure to join us for the next round of Slay Your Plans and Profit

What many hairstylist and Salon Owners Worry about today!

The industry has changed so much! I have been a licensed cosmetologist for over 23 years now. And a lot has changed.

Even for me.

At some point in my career, I went from constantly hitting the pavement and using tried and true strategies to build a clientele( that still work) to coupling them with more creative client building strategies.

I share a few at the end of this broadcast.

Now, as a Business Consultant to Salon Owners and Hairstylist, many share they are simply trying to find their way in this new online and digital world.

I will say that owning a salon and having a need to not only build a clientele for myself but for staff as well, caused me to have no choice but to be creative, innovative and even take a few uncomfortable risk in marketing to make it happen.

Uncomfortable risk!

Well, when you’ve never done something, like Facebook, built a website or marketed online, it can be uncomfortable! But I didn’t let that stop me! Creating a salon business that I loved was important to me when I was a salon owner.

Now, we all Know, if it’s important to you, you find a way!

I talk to Stylist and Salon Owners often who are overwhelmed with all of the new technology and some of the new trends in styles and hair “fashion” today.

My advice is :

  • The internet is your friend. Start with a few simple strategies you can be consistent on until it becomes easier.(I’ll list some below!)

and

  • Stay relevant! , But this doesn’t always mean know how to the latest weave, or lace front or crochet style even.

Relevant can actually mean going really deep into your niche.

Your niche is something that is very comfortable or suitable for you.

As a licensed cosmetologist, you can do and market A LOT OF DIFFERENT SERVICES! However, if you really enjoy cutting, go really deep in your knowledge and skillset of cutting. You really don’t have to be all things to all people. Just amazing to a few people. A few may mean 100 people out of the billion in the world.

Does this help you understand NICHE better?

Does this paint a more clear picture of why you don’t have to learn ALL the latest styles and techniques to be profitable?

Now there are a few skillsets where having a strong basic foundation in will help.

However, if your knowledge in a niche area is amazing and you market properly you probably won’t have time for much more!

Just focus on Mastery! (get really good at a few things) Your sense of urgency to become better should also align with how fast you’d like to profit!

So, if you are worried that you can’t keep up with Today’s salon industry and all the new strategies and techniques, Breathe. Pick a few to get great at

  • Strategies to attract the right customers to your website and physical location!
  • A niche area to dominate in
  • And my all-time favorite…email marketing

These are just three of my top suggestions for success in today’s times for the Salon Industry!

I’ll be sharing more detail in my private Facebook Group for Hairstylist and Salon Owners! JOIN OUR TRIBE!

Until Next Week,

The Growth Stage in Your Salon Business

Being a Hair Stylist or Salon Owner operating in the Beauty Industry definitely goes through several phases, three of which I mentioned in a training on Facebook page last week. I also did a blog post on the first stage of growth, THE SEED STAGE, that a salon business or hair stylist career goes through!

So, today we’ll talk about Growth Stage of A Career in the Beauty Industry! I’ll highlight what that entails.

Let’s jump right in

  • In the Growth Stage of business, you may find yourself moving out of the survival mode. YESSSSS!
  • You normally have begun figuring out who your true customers are.
  • Your Income and Revenue feels a little more certain.
  • The Growth Stage is such a tricky stage/ You really have to be careful. In this stage, many people make the huge mistake of increasing their spending during the Growth Stage. After all, you’ve struggled for so long, it feels like freedom. You’ve worked hard, and you deserve it!
  • Many people make the Grave mistake of doing a lot of excess things with the increased Revenue in this stage of Growth.

This is actually where I feel you should really invest back into your business.

  • Begin putting money to the side
  • Get rid of things that just are not working.
  • Really sit down and look at the operational side of your business. Whether you are a hair stylist, salon owner, videographer, or cake baker… there is a business side to your business, and your attention to it will determine whether you continue to grow!
  • In the Growth Stage, you master being attentive to your business working functions and systems.
  • This is a time where you really should mastering your systems.
  • As you prepare for a greater influx of people and customers, you should market to them and service them with a greater ease and experience for the customer.
  • Your Customer Process should function at the highest. After all, we need customers to do business, and their experience with you is important. Scheduling appointments, the experience they have on the phone, their consultation, their check out process, their connections between visits.. all this stuff matter!
  • If you have staff or renters in your salon, their training, salon etiquette, staff meetings, all of this matters gravely too. Everyone in your business ultimately is “the experience” customers have in your place. Whether they are your client or another person’s in the salon, they are affected by staff. It becomes a part of your Brand, and how the marketplace sees you!
  • Take time in the Growth Stage to begin operating with specific systems. Recognize how well they work or don’t work! Tweak them so that they work to Peak Performance! This will help to eliminate some of the frustration that can occur because you are getting more customers and being exposed to more people. This is really a great time to focus on those systems because there are also more customers to spread the word if things are not operating well.
  • This is a huge time for reflection! It can even feel like you have taken a seat back when you actually haven’t, you’ve just taken an opportunity to maximize and master your time, your energy, your money, your resources, your connections and your systems
  • Sometimes LESS IS MORE!
  • The Growth Stage is really a time to use some of the added Revenue to get help in your business so that it makes doing business easier and not harder.
  • Start delegating some of the lower level tasks out to someone else so you can focus on the income producing things that you are great at, whether that is simply being a great stylist or an excellent visionary as a salon owner!
  • Don’t be The Lone Ranger.
  • You Simply Can’t do it all and do it with a spirit of excellence!

This pretty much details many of the things that ae expected and the things that you should Master in your Growth Stage.

Measuring will be everything to mastering this Level and preparing

for the next.

I would love to hear from you about what stage you feel your salon career is in so far.

Hopefully this has challenged you take another look at your business!

Leave your comments below!

Until Next week( Where we discuss the last stage, The Expansion Stage)
