We are forever growing and evolving and I don’t think we give ourselves permission. I feel we often do it with resistance.

We look at our age. We look at our responsibilities and we say, “I should be “this” by now. I should be “that” by now. According to who’s opinion?

It’s as if there is this unspoken time clock or restriction that has been placed on us by society that we’ve accepted.

And I know, I’m very aware that I am writing this to adults. Many in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.

So, the question,

“What do you want to be when you grow up” may strike as odd.

A surprising 98% of people are said to leave this earth and not fulfill their goals and dreams.

I feel if we keep asking and aligning with the answer to the question,

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” we can increase that 2% or at the core be in it!

You can reinvent your life and your business.

You can transition to another work field.

You can transition to a different level in your business.

You can wake up today and decide that you want to do it different.

Because we are forever growing and evolving I believe,

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”,  is a great question to ask from time to time.

Do you remember being asked that question as a young child? Maybe even as young as a kindergartener.

Perhaps your school had a career day and the fireman, police officer, bank teller, accountant, or doctor from your area came to your school and talked to you about their career.

Somehow, everyone wanted to be a doctor, a lawyer, or work in corporate America or their parent wanted them to. That was the standard, the ultimate achievement.

Now thinking about it, it’s weird to think everyone aspired to be that in a world where things like the stoplight, the computer, the toilet paper holder, beautiful paintings, landscape, houses, prosperous gardens, amazing books, the Tesla car, the light bulb, the ironing board, Amazon Shipping, and numerous other inventions, crafts, and creations are formed. At one time we were so limited in our thinking and aspiration they definitely weren’t suggestions surrounding our career. Many have held onto that limitation.

In a world where the industrial revolution and workforce created a soundboard for how our school’s curriculum and patterns were developed, even if we felt something different in our hearts, many things simply didn’t seem normal.

So we answered the question,

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”, within the lines of conformity set before us!

We begin to form our desires around our immediate examples.

We have been doing it for a long time.

This is why I feel so many limit destiny because of what we have been exposed to or not exposed to.

I believe God places things on the inside of our heart that aren’t the norm, that we never ever grab onto fully because it’s not traditional. We push back those internal desires. (The desires of our heart God paces there)

I remember, before I became a Certified Life and Business Coach before I owned a brick-and-mortar service-based business before I went to school and got certified for Real Estate, before I went to a trade school and acquired a craft, after I left college, feeling like what I was pursuing wasn’t a REAL JOB.

No one ever talked about it in my household, or anyone I knew, as something people did to earn a living.

But wouldn’t you know my first six-figure year was in that trade in my 20’s.

It was in that thing that most people didn’t see as a career when I was growing up.

After all, being a licensed cosmetologist was not a real job. Despite it being the industry the first female millionaire made her first million in.

At the time I chose that career choice, that’s not what the world was celebrating as a REAL JOB at that time. Now people are leaving corporate America to enter the Beauty Industry.

The first car I purchased on my own at the age of 22 was in that career, I traveled often, bought whatever I wanted based on how I’d owned the answer to the question,

“What do want to be when you grow up?”… at that time!

I say , ” At That Time” because I asked myself the question again over 10 years later,

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I then turned that craft into a business, opened a brick and mortar, employed 12 staff, started 2 skincare product lines, started a clothing boutique, contributed to my community, and grew as a leader.

I did this for 10 years.

Around that 7 year mark, I asked myself the question, yet again,

“ What do you want to be when You grow up?

After many small business owners and organizations came to me for help with their business in the community, I felt it was time to ask the question again?

The desire to show others and teach stood to the forefront as an answer.

Something hit me.

I was creating my own money for multiple decades, I had more freedoms than the average person that had completed college and earned their degree or worked a 9 to 5.

I wanted to teach others what I was doing.

There had to be more people who felt like me.

Who wanted to keep growing, remove the income cap, step into new possibilities, have more time freedom… keep betting on themselves.

At that stage of my life, I answered the question,” What do you want to be when you grow up?” and leaned fully into it.

After 10 years, I felt it was time to grow again!

I’m not saying stepping into, growing into, that next version of myself didn’t come with challenges, resistance,

shooooot, everything around me looked the opposite for a while.

Every voice around me, even in my own head, was saying, “Just stay small, Don’t grow up, Stay where it’s secure, Don’t become more!”

But the voice in my head to grow, yet again, became the strongest!

Maybe you have been in something for a long time and feel somewhat limited because you are still answering the question, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” with what society deems normal!

Or maybe you never even considered doing the real desire in your heart.

My hope is to inspire you, to empower you!

Today, I feel so blessed to work from my home, earn great money and help a lot of people as a Growth Strategist, (Certified Life and Business Coach) That was the answer to one of the questions I answered almost a decade ago.

And yet again,

I have asked myself the question,

”What do you want to be when you grow up?”

in this new decade!

I won’t stop what I’m doing now, however, it will grow and evolve, possibly look different a decade from now. But all because I am not afraid to continue asking myself, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and lean fully into it.

How about you? “What do you want to be when you grow up?

Is it outside of the world’s scope of normalcy.

Does it not necessarliy make sense to others?

Are you exploring how you could monetize ii?

Are you saying, “Make it make sense!”

I’d love to help you explore that and map it out!
